85 Series 5/8" Tilt Window Balance - 37"
The 85 Series spiral window balance is a commonly used balance system for aluminum and vinyl tilt-in windows. It controls the movement of the window sash, allowing it to open smoothly and remain open at the desired height.
- Features a 37" long metal tube. When selecting a replacement, measure only the metal tube length.
- Balance strength is identified by a color tip located at the end of the existing tube. If no color tip is present, weigh the sash and reference the chart below.
- The metal tube measures 9/16" in diameter, commonly referred to as 5/8" in the window industry. It contains an internal spiral rod with double pins.
- Designed for left or right side installation.
- Works with 600 series spiral balances
- Shipped fully lubricated and ready to be tensioned during installation.
- Tensioning tools are 85-511 and 85-515

Weight ranges are based on using two balances per sash. Actual sash weight support may vary depending on friction from jamb liners or weatherstripping.
Best Practice
- For best performance, window balances should be replaced in pairs (sold individually). Installing one new balance alongside an old one can lead to uneven operation and premature wear. Replacing both ensures smooth, long-lasting performance.
