CertainTeed 96-C Series Constant Force Balance
The CertainTeed 96-C Series Constant Force Balance is a durable stainless steel coil spring to support the sash and provide smooth, controlled operation in tilt-in windows. Each coil is specifically calibrated to the weight of the window sash, helping balance the sash as it moves up and down. When properly matched and installed, the balance helps the sash stay in position when opened and remain securely closed when lowered.
- Available in two tongue types: short and long and multiple weight ratings
- Long tongue variants are designed to install at the top of a multi-coil balance assembly. If you only have one coil, choose the short tongue variant
- To find the correct replacement, check your old coil spring for a stamp or imprint weight rating. This indicates the balance weight needed for your window.
- Refer to the stamp chart below for easy identification
- Each coil balance is rated to support a specific amount of weight. When multiple coils are used together, their weight ratings combine to support the full weight of the window sash.
- The coil measures 3/4" thick
- Used with a compatible pivot shoe (sold separately)
- Designed for left or right side installation.
- Works with 170 and 171 series coil balances respectively
Best Practice
- For best performance, window balances should be replaced in pairs (sold individually). Installing one new balance alongside an old one can lead to uneven operation and premature wear. Replacing both ensures smooth, long-lasting performance.
